Despite hopes a reunion with his childhood sweetheart was on the cards just weeks ago, it seems Marcus Rashford has begun a romance with a new mystery French woman
Marcus Rashford 's recent run of poor performances on the pitch could be down to the young footballer navigating some drama in his personal life.
The Manchester United player, 26, is said to be in the bad books with his bosses and teammates after reportedly calling in sick to training last week after enjoying a boozy night out in Belfast.
It's been claimed during his 12-hour bender in Ireland, Marcus had a fuming row with a French woman believed to be his girlfriend - with the campaigner against racism and child hunger in the United Kingdom reportedly chucking her out of the hotel room they were meant to be sharing in the early hours of the morning.
Marcus - who split from fiancée Lucia Loi last summer - and his mystery woman reportedly woke fellow guests in the hotel thanks to their alleged argument. The England international's off-pitch antics are certainly out of character for the man who inspired millions with his generosity throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
"From speculation over the state of his on-off relationship with his childhood sweetheart fiancée Lucia Loi, through conjecture over the relationships with his brothers, Dane and Dwaine, to the well-documented issues affecting his underperforming Manchester United team, and his own spectacular loss of form, there is so much that must be affecting him," the Mirror's Darren Lewis wrote this week, as he implored football fans not to judge Marcus over his recent behaviour.
Marcus' "on-off relationship with his childhood sweetheart fiancée Lucia Loi" seems to be firmly off at the moment, if reports the inspiring footballer has struck up a new romance with his female companion in Belfast. According to MailOnline, Marcus shocked guests at the five-star hotel in Northern Ireland as they were reportedly woken by the woman raging as the footballer ordered her out of their room.
It's claimed Marcus' rumoured new love interest accused the footballer, who earns £325,000 per week at Manchester United, of kissing another woman at a nightclub earlier in the evening. According to witnesses speaking to the publication, Marcus' possible girlfriend collected her belongings from the corridor floor and marched down to reception and demanded a separate room from the campaigner.
"He was with a woman who I thought was his girlfriend who was staying with him," one hotel source told the MailOnline after claiming Marcus and his group returned to the hotel at around 2am. "But all of a sudden there was a lot of noise and raised voices when she apparently started accusing him of kissing another woman at Thompsons Garage nightclub."
The source continued: "She was shouting at him and accusing him of not respecting her. Rashford's security got involved and got her out of the suite – and wouldn't let her back in. Guests were woken by the noise. Rashford himself then threw all her stuff out into the corridor – and closed the door on her."
It's claimed Marcus stayed at £1,500 a night at Belfast's Fitzwilliam Hotel on Thursday night before flying back to Manchester via private jet on Friday at 5.30am - calling into work sick a few hours later and skipping a training session. In a statement issued on Monday, a spokesperson for Manchester United said: "Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed."
Marcus' career woes come just months on speculation he had reunited with his on-off fiancee Lucia, after the pair appeared to call it quits for good over the summer. Marcus and Lucia's romance began after meeting in the halls at the Ashton on Mersey school in Sale, Manchester, when the aspiring footballer was coming through the youth team ranks at Old Trafford.
The pair's relationship went from strength-to strength as Marcus' career began to soar but the pair briefly split in 2021 - blaming the pressure of lockdown as the reason for the end of their union. The childhood sweethearts remained in close contact and eventually rekindled things the following year - with Marcus popping the question to Lucia in May 2022 during a trip to Los Angeles.
However, less than a year on from announcing their engagement, Marcus and Lucia split once again in April 2021. Lucia wiped her Instagram page following the end of engagement and in July, captioned a new selfie: "I’ve risen from the social media grave and starting new."
There had been hope a reunion was on the cards back in November, thanks to the former couple being spotted enjoying what appeared to be a cosy date night in a French wine bar in Manchester. But with Marcus' recent antics in Ireland - coupled with the fact Lucia is no longer wearing an engagement ring - it appears to childhood sweethearts' romance is still very much off.
